Cantabrian Health Service uses Rainbow for teleconsultation
August 3, 2020
In Cantabria, Spain, 600,000 patients and 6000 medical personnel will benefit from video teleconsultations via Rainbow by Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise
Madrid, July 14, 2020- The Servicio Cántabro de Salud (Cantabrian Health Service), in charge of delivering public health services in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria in Spain, has deployed the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise RainbowTM solution in its CPaaS (communication platform as a service) modality. The solution enables teleconsultations between doctors and patients at home through videoconference via the Cantabrian Health Service’s SCSalud app and website.
A deployment to maintain the continuity of healthcare
To meet patient care needs that arise in crisis situations, like the current health crisis, the Cantabrian Health Service launched live remote video consultations, which are scheduled ahead of time and accessible to any patient. The reliable and secure Rainbow CPaaS solution was quickly deployed and offers the scalability needed to meet the Cantabrian Health Service’s evolving needs.
Videoconference consultations are important for establishing and maintaining doctor-patient relationships. In addition, medical personnel can view the patient's medical history in real-time during the consultations to facilitate sessions and improve outcomes. The interface used by the patient on their mobile or web phone is intuitive and simple for all types of users.
"Thanks to the flexibility and speed in the deployment of the tool, the videoconference teleconsultation system will serve our 6,000 health professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives, social workers, etc.) from the hospitals and health centres, as well as the medical inspectors of the Department of Health, all of whom can now carry out direct consultations with patients and optimise their working time. Rainbow also helps to guarantee safety and avoid unnecessary trips and visits by patients to our health centres ”, comments Santiago García Blanco, CIO Healthcare, Government of Cantabria.
According to Pilar Vidales from the Physiotherapy Service of the Cantabrian Health Service, “The video consultation has allowed our patients to feel cared for and continue with their rehabilitation exercises without having to travel to our hospitals, especially patients from very remote areas. The screen sharing and full screen functionalities have greatly helped us to transmit instructions and monitor their activity.”
Óscar Fernandez, from the Psychiatry Service adds, "In a very complicated situation due to the COVID19 pandemic, we were able to organise and maintain a remote psychogeriatrics program with Senior Residences in Cantabria thanks to video consultation."
For his part, Jean-Clovis Pichon, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise in Spain, states that, “We are proud to participate with the Cantabrian Service in a project that benefits healthcare. Together we have shown the critical role that communications technology can have in maintaining essential public health services and quality patient care.”
